Reading Reflection 7

Reading Reflection #7

This week I managed to get a lot of reading done. I get Mondays and Fridays of reading in my other English class as well as another period of reading in this creative writing course. This has given me time to finish my second book this school year. It may not seem like a lot of reading for some people, but as I said, I've never really been much of a reader.

An Abundance of Katherines
John Green
(end of book)

So this week I was able to Finish An Abundance of Katherines.  I really enjoyed the book.  In my opinion the beginning went a little slow for me and I wasn't really into it, but once I started to understand the characters and really get into it, I couldn't but the book down.  I really like the whole story of this novel.  It's crazy to think that even for someone who is so smart and thinks they know what they want to do with their life, could always change there mind.  Colin thought he only liked Katherines, until he met Lindsey.  I really like how somehow like Lindsey, a girl you struggled to find herself could help a guy like Colin realise that being known isn't everything.  They both learn together that you have to be yourself and not try to impress others.  In the end I really enjoyed the book.  All the events that took place were interesting.  I could relate to what the characters were going through because they were all about the same age as me.  I personally think it would be awesome to go for a road trip with my friends and have an adventure.  Well see what happens.

Something Borrowed
Emily Griffin
Pages 1 - 37

This week I also started a new book.  Even though I am just starting the book, so far I really enjoy it.  There hasn't really been much that I can relate to so far besides one thing.  Rachel has always been wondering about her future.  She seems to always be thinking ahead and wondering what it is going to be like.  I am kind of like that in a way.  I always wonder what I am going to be like when I'm older, where I'm going to live and who my friends are going to be.  So we have that in common.  I am sure I will find a lot more connections between me and the book once I read a little bit more.

Post High School Thinking

Being in my last year of highschool, there are a lot of things that are going to change.  I have a few plans for the future.  First of all, I am going to go to university.  I'm not planning on taking a year off but instead, go straight into it in Spetmeber.  I personally do not know what I want to do for a job.  I have so many options.  I love animals, and always wanetd to be a vet, I also think i would love a job as an orthodentist as well as maybe even a lawer.  There are just so many choices.  On top of that, I am not planning on staying in Winnipeg forever.  I think it's too cold for me here and I would rather live in a bigger city.  So hopefully I will get the chance to move as soon as I can.  This blog should help me persue my goals after hishschool.  I really enjoy doing photography, editing pictures, and creating logos as well.  I can always post all of my work on my blog for people to see.
Another way that my blog could help me in the future is for things such as new jobs and scholarships.  If I keep on updated things at least weekely, it will show that I am dedicated and a hard worker.  My plan is to keep my blog going even once this semster is done.  This will help me for many things.  When someone googles my name,  now a whole section of my class work is avalable for anyone to see.  In the end this blog is only benefitting me.  I really like posting personal additions to it, and I also enjoy sharing my class work.

Writing Reflection #4

Writing Reflection #4

The Six word memoirs, in my opinion were a really good assignment. I really enjoyed making them, and I thought they they all turned out pretty good. I thought that it was a a good project because it wasn't super easy but also wasn't very hard. The whole concept of putting words together with a picture to tell a story is pretty simple. The hard part is the use of only six words! You have to chose your six words very carefully, because you want it to be clear but still detailed.

I learnt a lot about this micro form of writing. First of all I learnt that you can tell a story with only 6 words. It almost seems impossible, but when you add the picture it adds a lot more detail. I also learnt that I really enjoyed making these. I thought it was really fun!

As I was doing this project, I learnt that I enjoyed making the visual better than writing the 6 words. Even though I also enjoyed creating the 6 words, I have always like taking pictures and editing them. Because of that, I liked editing the pictures the best!
While doing this project, I have learnt that I enjoy incorporating visuals with my text. I think that it helps me explain what I am writing about. I really like how this course has helped me figure out what kind of writing I like best. I am really enjoying this creative writing class, and all of the projects that we have been doing.

Personal Addition #3

This is anther personal addition that I decided to add.  This is a picture that i took of a flower in the summer.  Although I really like all seasons, I'd have to say that summer is my favourite.  There is so  much to do in the summer and I love spending time outside!  I think that summer is also so pretty!  the grass is nice and green and there are a lot of flowers.  I love how it is nice and sunny!  So seeing summer go is kind of sad! Hopefully this winter won't be very cold!  So anyways, I thought I would share one of my pictures and explain why I love summer so much!

Personal Addition #2

This is a personal addition that I decided to add because it is now fall and I love how fall looks!  I think that all of the trees are so pretty.  I took these pictures myself about a week ago.  I really like taking pictures and will probably post more as personal additions.

This is my digital foot print sketch. I included the websites and items that I use in a day to day basis.

Six Word Memoir #6

This is a six word memoir that I did based on my cheerleading team.  This shows that a team is really something that is important especially with a cheerleading team.  For cheerleading, everyone need to be there for everything to work out.  If someone misses a practice it means that other team mates are missing out on practice as well.  Our cheer team is really close and everyone gets a long very well with each other.  We all work together to learn new stunts and try new things!  Accomplishing a new skill feels great especially when everyone worked hard together to achieve it!  In the end i think my team is like a family because we are all close and we spend a lot of time together! I love it.

Six Word Memoir #5

This memoir really shows the importance of having a family.  It shows that if you enjoy the people who you are with, that you will have a good time no matter what.  This picture is of me, my brothers and my mom on one of our family trips.  I really like it because my family used to go on a trip every summer.  We always went on road trips and I think that they are a lot of fun!  This is one of many pictures that I could have used for these specific words.  I chose this one because the background is cool and I love old pictures.

Six Word Memoir #4

This is my fourth six word memoir.  This is a picture (from left) of my brother, my cousin, my twin brother and then me!  This picture was taken on one of my family trips to Toronto.  I have family in Toronto and we go there every once and a while to visit.  I love looking at old pictures.  It reminds me of all the fun that i used to have with my friends and family.  I can still look back and remember exactly that moment.  It is crazy how fast time goes by and it doesn't feel like this was over ten years ago.  I love memories with my family having a good time, and it is really fun to be able to look back and smile at the past.

Six Word Memoir #3

This is one of my favourite memoirs that I did.  A little under 2 years ago, I decided that i was going to donate my hair to cancer.  I wasn't completely sure that I wanted to do it, but i finally decided that I should!  There are many reasons that helped me decide to donate it.  One was that it was for a good cause.  If i had cancer and got a nice wig because someone donated their hair i would appreciate it a lot.  Also, hair grows back so why not cut off a lot and do something with it.  I decided to donate 12 inches!  And it felt so good to do it!  I encourage everyone to do the same thing!

Six Word Memoir #2

This is my second six word memoir.  For this one I chose my six words to be "I want to move far away".  I think that at some point in my life I will hopefully get the chance to move away.  I really want to move somewhere are basically start a new life.  I think that adventures are exciting and moving somewhere else would defiantly be an adventure.  I took this picture on a plane ride last year and I think that is goes good with my writing because it represents moving.  I do love all my family and friends in Winnipeg, but I think moving is a great opportunity to meet new people!  On top of that in my opinion there aren't very many opportunities in winnipeg, and its cold!  I'd like to move to a bigger city and a place that doesn't have very cold winters.

Six Word Memoir #1

This is my the first 6 word memoir that I made.  I thought that I would do this idea because it represents my family and my life.  I have 3 brothers and all of them are younger then me.  I used to really want a sister when I was younger and every time was disappointed with a brother.  Now I am happy that I have 3 brothers because I think it's really interesting  and I never really get into fights with them!  I love it! they are all different and I get along pretty well with all of them.  To me having a big family is great! there is always so  much to do and always people to spend time with.  I would hate to be an only child because it seems really lonely.  In the end I think that this 6 word memoir really describes my life and thats why i chose it.

Reading Reflection #4

Reading Reflection #4
An Abundance of Katherines
John Green
Pg. 1-37

Last Friday, I started to read a new book.  The book that I picked is called An Abundance of Katherines.  This book is written my John Green, the author if the novel that I just finished reading.  I picked this book because I really like the way that John Green writes.  In my opinion, his books are very easy to read, and interesting.  I like how in both of the books, the main characters have been around my age and in both situations, I can relate to them in some way.

My first question that I have for this book, is why Colin is obsessed with girls witht the name of katherine.  He doesn't seem to be interested in any other girls.  I don't understand this because first of all it is just a name, and a name doens't define who you are.  Perhaps in his head, he thinks that all Katherines are the same, but if this is true, he probably shouldn't still be looking for another one because it clearly hasn't worked out and he has had 17 chances so far.  So hopefully, with reading more I will find out what is so special about the name katherine and hopefully he will realize that a name shouldn't make a difference.

So far I have already seen connections with myself to the main character, Colin.  First of all Colin just graduated from Highschool, and I will be graduationg this year.  On top of that he is most likely going to go to university, which is something that I plan on doing also.  Those are the two main connections that I have with the main character.

In the end, I am interested in this book so far, and I think that I will enjoy it.  Hopefully I can find more connections with the book to myself because this always makes the reading more interesting for me.

Writing Reflection #3

Writing Reflection

Writing six word memoirs for me went pretty good.  I really liked writing them because you could write about whatever you wanted to.  I chose to stay in the classroom to start writing my memoirs because I thought I would concentrate better.  I did concentrate well, and I got most of the categories completed.  I really like this kind of writing because I think it’s pretty easy.  I like being able to write about anything I want.  The only part that I found a little bit difficult is connecting an original picture to my text.  While writing the text, I had to keep in mind what pictures I already had as well as what pictures I could take.  Although it doesn’t seem very hard, it can be a little bit when you want pictures of your friends in the past for example.  Throughout writing these, I learned that I really enjoy writing short forms are writing.  On top of that writing about my own life and own experiences is a lot more interesting to me than making up a story.  In the end I definitely think that the hardest part was getting a picture to go with the text.  After that was done, it was definitely rewarding to see the whole thing completed.

Blogging is going pretty good for me.  The hardest part though is finding the time to add more personal additions.  I am on 2 cheerleading team that take up almost 10 hours a week and I also have 2 jobs.  Because of this it is a little hard to find the time to be adding personal things but I will hopefully be able to change that.  I hope to see my blog develop a lot more for this upcoming week.  For this week I plan on adding a personal addition every 2nd day, so that I can catch up.  The most rewarding part for me so far has been seeing my blog develop and become all about me.  I also like how all of my projects for this class are put on here.  It helps keep me organized and helps me stay on top of handing in my assignments.
